Libby and "Political Oblivion"

Chris Weigant, over at the Huffington Post, has a new and fresh perspective on Scooter Libby. In a presentation of what he calls his own version of the McLaughlin Awards, Weigant deems Mr. Libby "destined for political oblivion." Says Weigant:

While I fully expect to see Karl Rove's name in the news in the future, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Scooter's name will never be heard again in Washington.

It is difficult to know what the angle is on this kind of language. But, if Weigant means to say that Libby's commutation of sentence merits no appearance in any serious minded list of all-time, most "controversial" clemency decisions, I could not agree more. If, however, Weigant means to say that a federal conviction and executive clemency remove all future hope for opportunity to have influence in Washington, he could not be more clueless. Just beneath one's nose, Exhibit A: Elliot Abrams.
