Will Kerik Join Libby?

Bernie Kerik, former New York City police commissioner and personal friend of presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani has been indicted on federal corruption charges and Giuliani is already being asked if he will pardon Kerik, if elected! The 52-year old Kerik is looking a possibility of 140 years in prison and over $4 million in fines. He has also plead not guilty. See additional details of the story here.

George Bush is among the most stingy presidents in history when it comes to pardons - everyone knows that. But, somehow, the Republicans are suddenly worthy of this sort of media check. Giuliani was also among the sharpest critics of President Clinton during the "Marc Rich Era of Justice" (apologies to Mr. Obama). But, now, he is ready to pardon before conviction! What leaps we are willing to tolerate. Perhaps it is time to ask Democratic candidates if they will pardon Democratic contributor Martha Stewart, or William Jefferson (D-La.).

Will anyone now bother to ask Hillary Clinton what becomes the obvious question? "What do you think of your husband's use of the pardon power and how will your own use of the power differ from his, if at all?"
